Matcha is building the future of decentralized finance (DeFi) on mobile, and we're looking for our first Mobile Engineer to lay the foundation. This is a unique opportunity to own the mobile experience end-to-end, from architecture to team leadership. As our foundational Mobile Engineer, you'll be instrumental in shaping the Matcha mobile app. You'll work closely with product, design, and engineering leadership, making key technical decisions, and ultimately building and leading a mobile engineering team. This is a hands-on role for someone who thrives on building impactful products from the ground up.

What You'll Do

• Lead the end-to-end development of our new React Native mobile app for both iOS and Android.
• Design and implement core app architecture, state management, and mobile infrastructure (e.g., release pipelines, telemetry, CI/CD).
• Collaborate closely with product, design, and backend teams to deliver seamless, intuitive, and high-performance DeFi experiences.
• Own the mobile user experience, bringing complex features like trading, transaction signing, and wallet connectivity to life.
• Maintain a high bar for code quality, testing, and performance through rigorous code reviews and technical mentorship.
• Stay current with React Native and web3 best practices, tools, and community trends to continuously improve our app.
• Define the long-term technical direction for mobile and contribute to hiring and onboarding future mobile engineers.

What You'll Bring

• 7+ years of experience in mobile development, with deep expertise in React Native and mobile application architecture.
• A proven track record of owning and delivering complex mobile projects, ideally products launched from scratch.
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript, React Native CLI & Expo, and experience with native modules (Objective-C, Swift, Java, Kotlin).
• Experience integrating mobile apps with REST and GraphQL APIs.
• Familiarity with state management libraries like Zustand, MobX, Redux, or Recoil.
• Deep understanding of mobile performance optimization, profiling, and debugging tools.
• Experience with mobile CI/CD pipelines and app distribution through the App Store and Google Play.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills in a remote, async-friendly environment.
• Comfortable operating autonomously in a fast-paced, product-led environment.
• A genuine passion for DeFi, open finance, and building tools that empower users.

Bonus Points

• Prior experience developing fully native iOS or Android apps (Objective-C, Swift, Kotlin, or Java).
• Experience working with crypto wallets (e.g., MetaMask, WalletConnect, Rabby) and web3 connectivity on mobile.
• Strong understanding of mobile security best practices, especially in a crypto context.
• Experience with product analytics, user telemetry, and experimentation on mobile (e.g., A/B testing, feature flags).
• Familiarity with modern product development tools like GitHub, Slack, Notion, and Linear.
