Description
We're looking for a Concept Artist to help during pre-production of our new game about a field biologist interacting with mundane and fantastical urban wildlife. We're targeting a stylized, non-photorealistic art style that echoes classic fairytales. Although our game is inspired by real-world biology, we'd like our aesthetic to be less realistic. Ultimately, we're trying to evoke the wonder and terror of biological life, which fairytales feel like a good match for.
Our Core Touchstones Include
- Biology: The mesmerizing beauty and horror of the natural world.
- Classic (unsafe) fairytales: Influenced by artists like Arthur Rackham, Ivan Bilibin, Aubrey Beardsley, and the works of Jim Henson's Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal.
- Unsettling strangeness: Drawing inspiration from the likes of Junji Ito, John Kenn Mortensen, and Mrzyk & Moriceau.
You'd be working on a mix of
- Character designs: Including humans, animals, and many fantastical creatures.
- Environments: Bringing the urban wilderness to life with a unique twist.
- Visual exploration: Developing ideas for gameplay mechanics and cinematic moments.
Note: If you feel strongly that you have what it takes for this role but don’t check 100% of the boxes—that’s okay—we encourage you to apply anyway and highlight what you can bring to the table.
