Description

As a Lead Cloud Optimization Engineer, you will combine your passion for data analysis and empowering customers daily. You'll lead a team of experts, working directly with clients to provide actionable cost intelligence, facilitate crucial conversations around cost drivers and solutions, and guide them on their FinOps journey. Your day will involve diverse discussions, from specific resource usage with engineering teams to tagging strategies with operations, COGS analysis with finance, and unit cost trends with executives. You'll also act as a player/coach, contributing to code, automation, and technical design while driving your team's success.

What You'll Do

  • Lead and mentor a team of cloud optimization experts to develop innovative solutions for cloud cost and performance optimization, including automation.
  • Act as a player-coach, contributing directly to code development, infrastructure automation, and technical design while guiding your team's achievements.
  • Collaborate with customers to deeply understand their cloud usage, business objectives, and cost/scalability challenges.
  • Design and implement algorithms and tools to analyze cloud usage (AWS, Azure, GCP), identify optimization opportunities, and deliver data-driven recommendations.
  • Coordinate optimization research across major cloud platforms and services like Snowflake, Databricks, OpenAI, Anthropic, and other AI/data infrastructure.
  • Ensure cloud solutions adhere to best practices for reliability, performance, security, and cost efficiency.
  • Engage directly with customers through technical briefings, in-depth optimization discussions, and collaborative solution sessions.
  • Partner with our data science team to integrate ML/AI into cost optimization, developing models and strategies for automated insights and recommendations.
  • Collaborate with our data science team to develop tailored models for cloud cost forecasting, allocation, and governance.
  • Stay updated on emerging cloud trends, pricing updates, and best practices to maintain a competitive edge.

In order to succeed in this position, you will need

Mandatory Skills:
  • Advanced English: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • EST Working Hours: Comfortable working within a 9 AM - 5 PM Eastern Time (EST) core hours schedule.
  • Strong Cloud Consulting Experience: Proven experience consulting on AWS, GCP, and/or Azure services/solutions.
  • Technical Leadership: Proven experience leading technical teams and delivering cloud-based solutions and optimizations.
  • Deep Cloud Platform Knowledge: Strong hands-on experience with AWS (Azure and GCP knowledge is a plus), including pricing models and cloud-native services.
  • Cloud/DevOps/SRE Background: Solid background in Cloud, DevOps, or Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), with expertise in building well-architected, scalable, and cost-effective systems.
  • Automation & Development Skills: Proficiency in infrastructure automation and development using tools/languages like Python, Terraform, or similar.
  • Strong Data Analysis Skills: Experience with SQL, cloud monitoring tools, and cost management platforms.
  • Exceptional Communication: Ability to clearly communicate complex cloud architecture and cost optimization strategies to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Client-Facing Experience: Prior experience in a client-facing role with a passion for delivering value and exceptional customer experiences.
  • "Get Stuff Done" Mentality: Thriving in fast-paced, collaborative environments focused on innovation and execution.
  • Continuous Learning: Passion for staying current with cloud technology advancements.
Nice to Have:
  • FinOps Certified Practitioner.
  • Relevant Cloud Certifications (AWS, GCP, and/or Azure).
  • Experience building BI dashboards (Quicksight, Looker, Domo, Tableau, etc.).
  • Experience authoring SQL queries.
