Description
As a Game Designer at Loftia, you will be a key contributor to our founding team, shaping the player experience by crafting engaging game loops, features, and content. You will be an advocate for high-quality, cozy experiences, working closely with the game director, lead designer, and project leads to build a captivating product that reflects Loftia's core themes of community and sustainability. What You'll Do
- Content Design: Research and create briefings for items, resources, furniture, clothing, NPCs, and locations. Your goal is to create immersive open maps and engaging gameplay loops that enhance the player experience.
- Systems Design: Design and write detailed specifications for a wide range of features—from core gameplay actions to larger progression and social systems. You'll focus on creating evergreen content that will entertain players for a long time.
- Implementation: Work with other departments to ensure content and systems are implemented correctly. You will use our config tools in Unreal 5 to set up items and adjust balancing, timings, and behaviors (no coding required).
- Collaboration & Communication: Follow the design team's processes and clearly communicate your reasoning in written, visual, and oral forms. You will provide regular updates on your progress and challenges to your teammates.
- Feedback & Iteration: Collaborate with fellow designers and other teams to solve problems and execute solutions. You'll actively listen to feedback from the wider team and the player community, adapting your designs as necessary.
What You'll Bring
- Experience: At least 3 years of experience as a Game Designer on one or more released games that showcase your design skills.
- Appreciation for Cozy Games: You have a genuine passion for cozy games, either as a player or a developer. You understand the core loops of farming, gathering, and crafting, and believe in making a game without conflict at its core.
- Independence & Proactivity: You are self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to take full ownership of tasks and deliver high-quality designs with minimal supervision. You have an eye for small details and are driven to ship a great game.
- Critical Thinking: You possess strong analytical skills and the ability to solve complex design challenges. You can make decisions by combining your understanding of game development with the player's perspective.
- Communication & Organization: You have excellent communication skills and a desire to work collaboratively with team members at all levels. You are adept at giving and receiving feedback, and can maintain clear, organized documentation.
Bonus Points
- Experience with economy design, level design, or quest design.
- Prior coding experience.
Skills and competencies show up in different forms and can be based on different experiences, so we strongly encourage you to apply even if you don't have all the requirements listed above.
